Making Kente Cloths – KS1 Activity morning

15 Oct

This week KS1 held our first Share activity morning of this year. Our topic is On Safari and we have been learning about traditional African textiles. We had a fantastic time creating Kente cloths using print pressing. We had a great turn out of parents and the children thoroughly enjoyed the session, thank you!

We discussed the purpose of Kente cloths, the meaning of the colours and the different patterns that are included. Children explored different shapes and designed their pattern in their sketchbooks. Children then transferred their design onto a polystyrene tile. Children rolled the paint onto their tile and then they were ready to print!

The Kente cloths look amazing! Well done and thank you to all of KS1 and the parent helpers.
