British Values

British Values Statement

At Bosmere Community Primary School we actively promote British Values and are prepared to challenge members of, or visitors to, our school community who express contrary views. As a staff, we identify opportunities to promote our fundamental British values in a variety of ways. For instance:

Democracy:
The elected School and Learning Council meets regularly and takes part in decision making on a range of topics, as does our School Eco council. The ‘voice’ of our stakeholders is highly valued. As a staff, we make every effort to ensure members of our community are consulted and heard at all levels of decision making so everyone has a sense of value and belonging.

The Rule of Law:
Staff consistently reinforce high expectations of learning and behaviour through the relationships we establish. Our school values are explicit in our Relationship policy and our day to day practice.

Individual Liberty:
Everyone is actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.  The school provides pupils with opportunities to learn about what makes a good choice. Pupils are encouraged to express their views.

Mutual Respect:
Our school’s ‘Respect’ value permeates all areas of school life and is explicit in our school vision.  Staff consistently model and expect mutual respect and promote the behaviours and attitudes that are the foundation of positive relationships. The strong school ethos encourages everyone to be considerate of others and to support each other. We celebrate the worth and individuality of every member of the school
community.

Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:
The school’s curriculum aims to develop an understanding of others and the rich diversity of human kind; it is one of the Big Ideas threaded through our reading curriculum, for example.  The RE and PSHE schemes of work provide opportunities for pupils to develop tolerance of and empathy towards each other and those from different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
